In the framework of the PhD-Program in cooperation with the University of Zurich, we will offer 1-2 summer schools each year organized by the University of Berne or the University of Zurich. In order to have the possibility to get big groups of participating students - which makes it also more interesting for the lecturers - we also work in cooperation with EPFL and the Universities Fribourg and Neuchâtel.

In case someone is interested in organizing such a summer school, please contact Prof. Philippe Renaud who coordinates the overall organization between the Universities.

The summer schools will be held at the already known Eurotel Victoria in Villars-sur-Ollon usually in the month of August. Traditionally we try to invite about 5 lecturers that hold lectures on a specific topic. The lecturers will receive their travel expenses reimbursed.

Students will register for the summer school through a website that each organizing group will create and maintain on their own. The website of the overall doctoral program at the University of Berne will provide the link to the website of the offered summer schools.

PhD students and Postdocs of the DCB that attend the summer school can claim travel expenses upon the student administration office by filling out the corresponding reimbursement form provided on the website of the doctoral program. The following travel expenses can be claimed:

• Train ticket, 2nd class (if possible ½-price)
• Private car, 0.70 / km (if several people travel together)

The registration fees will normally directly be charged to the administrative office according to the participants list. In exceptional cases where so many students participate that the budget of the summer school is not sufficient to cover all the costs (registration fee and travel expenses), it could be that the groups of the participating students might have to cover a certain amount of the costs.

The budget of the doctoral program covers the hotel costs incl. lunches and dinners, refreshment breaks, book of abstract costs, office material as well as travel expenses of the participants and lecturers. Expenses for things like gifts as poster awards, group event, parking costs etc. have to be covered with sponsoring money that the organizer has to secure himself/herself.

The student administration office has to be provided with a list of the participants, the lecturers and their topics as well as the overall expenses (incl. sponsoring money). An according template will be provided. This information will be integrated into the final report for the University of Berne that finances the doctoral program.
