In the framework of the PhD-Program in cooperation with the University of Zurich, the University of Bern will invite various lecturers each semester. The University of Zurich will organize separately lectures on their premises during a semester.

The University of Bern will also announce the lectures that will be held at the University of Zurich and our chemistry PhD students and Postdocs are invited to attend these lectures. They will get reimbursed for their travel expenses should they attend such a lecture at the University of Zurich.

Each University covers the expenses of their guest speakers separately.

Up to 6 PhD students and Postdocs can go for lunch with the guest speaker if time allows it. In the evening at least one Professor can take the lecturer for dinner. These expenses can get claimed with the according expense form that will be provided on the website of the doctoral program. 

The following costs are covered by the doctoral program:

• Lunch with students: CHF 24.00 per person up to 6 students plus lecturer
• Dinner with Professors: max. CHF 300.00
• Hotel costs: max. CHF 180.00/ person and night, max. one night more than days of the visit

The lecturer gets his travel expenses reimbursed. The organizer will arrange an electronic train ticket for the guest (airport to University of Berne and return) and sends it to him/her in advance by e-mail. If someone’s train trips include private visits he/she is responsible to organize the train tickets on his/her own and gets only reimbursed for the train trip in connection with his/her lecture visit. The hotel bills will be paid by the University of Bern directly.

The following expense regulations will be applied:

• Train tickets 1st class
• Flights in Economy class, max. CHF 2’000.00
• No meals (except for lunch and dinner with our students and Professors)
