The study of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences is structured into the undergraduate Bachelor program (6 semesters, 180 ECTS,title: Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Molecular Sciences), the postgraduate Master program (3 semesters, 90 ETCS, in English langauge, title: Master of Sciences in Chemistry and Molecular Sciences) and the PhD program (3 to 4 years, in English language, title. PhD.
The programs are targeted to acquire an understanding of the topical questions of chemical, biochemical and material chemistry research, to realize problems and to know experimental methods for solving them.
What is chemistry?
Chemistry leads us to the building blocks of life and matter, from the nano-level of atoms and molecules up to the macroscopic substances, out of which the world around us is built. It leads us from the most simple molecules - from which billions of years ago life developed - to the modern nanotechnology.
Chemistry studies on the one hand the characteristics, creation, reactivity and analysis of the matter on the other hand the world of the molecules, structures and functions of molecules, which we find in nature and there it borders on biochemistry and molecular biology. The design and the tailor-made synthesis of new substances with pharmaceutical or diagnostic functions are central to the organic chemistry. Bioorganic chemistry and chemical biology create new enzymes and complex biopolymers to regulate life processes or to prove them on a molecular diagnostic basis. Material sciences study the creation of polymers, crystals and new optical, magnetic and electric properties. Chemical analysis searches for new procedures to analyze more and more exact substances in smallest quantities.
