Current Research Interests

Applications of mass spectrometry for structural investigation of biomolecules. Our research is primarily focused on the gas-phase dissociation of modified oligonucleotides and the application of tandem mass spectrometry for peptide / protein characterization and identification.

  • 1985-1990 Graduate studies in chemistry, University of Bern.
  • 1990-1995 Ph.D. thesis at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, University of Bern, with Prof. U.P. Schlunegger. MALDI-Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry of Biomolecules.
  • 1995-1997 Post-doc with Prof. Charles L. Wilkins at the Department of Chemistry, University of California at Riverside. MALDI-Fourier-transform Mass Spectrometry.
  • 1997-2003 Oberassistent at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Bern. Head of the mass spectrometry group.
  • Since 2003 Dozent at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Bern. 2007 Habilitation.
